In Memoriam

Albert Pitt "Pete" Shepherd, Jr., PhD, died peacefully at home on March 3, 2023, with his wife and daughter at his side.  He was 79 years old. 

He earned his PhD in Physiology at The University of Mississippi Medical Center under the guidance of Dr. Arthur Guyton, PhD. Professor Emeritus at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, he made significant contributions to cardiovascular physiology research.  However, he was best know as the inventor of the most widely used oximeter in cardiac cath labs in the United States.
